Clark Mitchell

Clark Mitchell, designated Master Pastelist by the Pastel Society of America, is well-known for his vibrant and captivating landscapes of Northern California, as well as other regions of the world.
Growing up in Colorado in the shadow of the Rockies, Mitchell very early discovered a love of the natural world. When quite young, he was given a set of fine old German pastels by his father, and quickly embraced the medium for its ease of handling, brilliance of color and portability.
In the 70ʼs he moved to the Bay Area for further study. And to fully immerse himself in the countryside he loved to paint, he settled in Sonoma County with his partner, where heʼs built a marvelous straw bale studio outside Cotati.
Winner of numerous awards (Best of Show at Laguna Plein Air Festival and Maui Plein Air Invitational) his work has been on the cover and in feature articles of many national magazines.
